As with any other business, in the automotive sphere, it’s mission critical to recognize on which side your bread is buttered – particularly in lean times like these. Bugatti may be losing money on each Veyron it builds, but that doesn’t mean that company strategists don’t know how to earn a crust. Need proof? This month’s Dubai Motor Show finds the supercar builder unveiling a trio of special edition models in one of its most important markets.
Bugatti invited us to the first unveiling of its new 16C Galibier Concept on U.S. soil at a special event in Southern California last week. While we have all seen the press images from its debut in Molsheim last month, the select in-person preview gave us an excellent opportunity to talk with Bugatti about the concept, scrutinize the vehicle up close, and to actually spend some time sitting inside the passenger cabin.
Check out the latest official shots of what Bugatti hopes will be the world’s fastest four-door.
The super-luxurious Galibier 16C saloon gets the same 8.0-litre 16-cylinder engine as seen in the Veyron coupé… and a colossal price tag to match!
Tuesdays can be unpredictable at Car and Driver. For example, one Tuesday this past July there was suddenly not one but two Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sports shimmering in the sunlight by our doorstep. Targa roofs jettisoned, they were a glistening pair of $2,128,230 carbon-fiber blisters seething with recherché decadence.
We’ve seen the pics; we’ve read the details. Now, it’s time for video, and Bugatti seems to have released exactly what we’re looking for. The looks of the French supercar maker’s Galibier concept are nothing if not striking and controversial, but at the level Bugatti’s playing at those descriptors are certainly vastly preferable to boring and staid.
As the climax of its centenary celebration ceremonies, Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. presented customers and opinion-makers with the Bugatti Galibier Concept, intended to be the most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world last weekend in Molsheim. At the historic site where Ettore Bugatti once laid the cornerstone of his company, Bugatti’s current president, Dr. Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen emphasised that the Bugatti Galibier 16C is one of several concept studies with which the company is considering for the future of the Bugatti marque.
Forza Motorsport 3 developer Turn 10 Studios has decided to share some exclusive video footage with Autoblog (and our sister site Joystiq) that features one of our favorite cars: the Bugatti Veyron. When the game is released, you’ll be able to take the wheel of the world’s most expensive ‘bug’ without having to drop $1.6 million large. And of course, you’ll get to customize it all you like. Take that, Sang Bleu…
That’s it, ladies and gents. The seemingly endless train of special edition Bugatti Veyrons has ended. Allegedly. After taking the wraps off the Sang Noir, Pur Sang, Fbg by Hermes, Grand Sport, Bleu Centenaire and the quartet of individual Centenaire tribute editions…..
With so many special edition Veyrons, we’re starting to wonder if Bugatti is still making any regular versions. To their credit, this is only the first unique version of the Grand Sport model that made its debut at Pebble Beach this time last year. Named the Sang Bleu, the latest Veyron variant was unveiled at the Quail Motorsports Gathering yesterday and features a body comprised of polished aluminum and carbon fiber tinted in Royal Blue.
