Citroën to build Metropolis concept flagship

The beauty of an automaker entering a completely new market like China is the ability to completely redefine what the brand stands for to local buyers. In the case of France’s Citroën, they’re going decidedly upmarket, but instead of taking baby steps like turning its C3 econo-hatch into the DS3 premium hatch, the French automaker can start completely from scratch.

Citroën reportedly readying hot hybrid DS4 Racing model

If you’re still scratching your head trying to figure out what to make of the new Citroën DS4, get ready to be even more confused. Emerging reports from across the pond indicate that the French automaker is preparing a performance version of the premium hatchback/crossover/whats-it in the same vein as the DS3 Racing… only taller. And with a few more doors. Presumed to be called the DS4 Racing, the high-performance version of the vehicle slated to debut in Paris later this month, will ostensibly target the bigger hot hatches already on the market, like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Renaultsport Megane 250.

Follow-up reports claim that Citroën hasn’t killed the program, so the proverbial jury is still out on whether it will get built or not. But that’s not even the good part, as Britain’s Autocar magazine has it on good authority that the French automaker is working on bringing two more recent concepts into production.

Frankfurt 2009: Meet the 2010 Citroen C3

It’s really a shame we can’t buy Citroens in America anymore. Main reason is the awesome C6. Second reason is that all the small Citroens we poked our heads into at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show had sticks. By comparison, more than half the VWs were slushers. Seriously Citroen, what is up? We’re all for premium small cars (think Mini Cooper, Audi A3) and pray nightly that more will start coming to our shores. But calling this C3-based hatchback a DS? For reals? Look, any new Citroen DS has some mighty big Louboutins to fill. Like, huge. And, well, come on now – who you fooling? End oleopneumatic-a-phile rant.

Frankfurt 2009: Citroen REVOLTe is… exactly that

Between storming the Bastille and a national rejection of the Venus razor, the French certainly know the meaning of the word “revolt”. Interesting, then, that Citroen knowingly used the word – albeit Francofied with a superfluous E for its hybrid electric drivetrain – for its latest concept car.

Citroën’s calling its Frankfurt Motor Show-bound 2CV-looking concept car the Revolte, which is an unfortunate made-up word in French. Everyone else has jumped on the neo-retro bandwagon – Fiat’s got its 500, Detroit has successfully exhumed 1969, and the Volkswagen New Beetle is to blame for it all – so why not Citroën?

2010 GTbyCitroën shown as a concept at last year’s Paris Auto Show

The GTbyCitroën, shown as a concept at last year’s Paris auto show, makes its production appearance at this year’s Frankfurt soirée. Originally created for the two-dimensional racing of the Gran Turismo 5 game for Playstation 3, Citroën has confirmed that six examples of the GT are now planned for production.

Citroën teases a modern 2CV ahead of Frankfurt debut

If the show won’t come to France, then France will go to the show. So while it may be Frankfurt’s turn to host the alternating European car show this year while Paris sits this one out, that doesn’t mean that French automakers haven’t got a few tricks up their sleeves. Although we’re still waiting to see what Bugatti has got in store for the Frankfurt show, Renault is coming with three new electric vehicles, Peugeot’s using the venue to unveil the new 3008 HYBrid, 5008 and 308 RCZ, and Citroën has got the new C3 and its premium counterpart DS3 to show off. But the chevron-emblazoned PSA auto division has just released a teaser shot of yet another vehicle on the docket for unveiling in Frankfurt, and it could be the most interesting of them all.
