Corvette Crashes During An AutoCross Event

A driver behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette recently found out just what can go wrong when there isn’t enough runoff around a cone slalom at a Speed Ventures autocross. According to YouTube, the driver had just returned from a break, meaning that both the track and the vehicle’s tires were cold as he came into the esses. The vehicle’s rear breaks lose in a slow, drawn out slide that culminates with the entire passenger side of the vehicle getting cozy with a nearby curb. It’s gut-wrenching at best.

GM Releases Pricing for 2012 Corvettes

Chevrolet Corvette sales haven’t exactly been rocking the charts lately. Last year, the mighty sports car saw its sales drop to a 50-year low thanks to a stagnant chassis, global recession and the arrival of the Chevrolet Camaro. Despite all this, General Motors is set to hike the vehicle’s price by anywhere from $480 to $1,150 depending on the model, according to Corvette Blogger. The site points out that the only Corvette in the armada to see a price decrease is the supercharged ZR1. Don’t think you’ll be getting a steal, though, the Blue Devil saw its price drop by just $75.

In addition, Corvette Blogger reports that the individual equipment packages have also gotten more expensive with the 2012 model. Models like the 2LT Coupe will see package prices increase from $1,195 to $2,095 while 3LT Coupe variants jump from $4,205 to $5,995. Step up to the 4LT trim level and you’ll see an increase from $7,705 to $9,495. Things get more expensive for the Corvette Convertible, too.

Next Chevy Corvette to offer small-displacement turbo V8

Just how small, exactly? TDB reports that the next Corvette’s European-style V8 could measure in at just over 3.0 liters, using an overhead-cam setup and dry sump oil system. With the aid of turbocharging, unnamed GM sources expect that this engine will deliver “in excess of 400 horsepower,” or about 125 hp per liter. What’s more, the smaller V8 could be of the extremely high-revving nature, with TDB citing that engine revs could handle up to 10,000 RPM.

Man “trapped” inside C6 Corvette with dead battery

When the battery dies on a C6 Corvette, the door-release buttons stop working. General Motors isn’t in the business of creating sports cars that turn into traps, so it installs (very obviously marked) levers on the floor that, when pulled, manually open the doors. Not rocket science, guys. No need to panic. But hey, when you do freak out, and your friends are kind enough to find it hilarious and videotape it.

GM investing $131 million in Corvette factory

There are plenty who feel about the Chevrolet Corvette, ‘may you live long and prosper,’ and General Motors is aiding that sentiment with a $131 million investment in the Bowling Green, Kentucky plant that builds the Chevrolet halo car. Apparently, though, the reason GM feels that way is because, in April, the state of Kentucky offered $7.5 million in tax incentives in order to hold on to production.

General Motors unveiled the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition at the 24 Hours of Le Mans back in March, and the special edition Z06 immediately piqued our interest. In addition to The General’s free-breathing 7.0-liter V8, the Z06 Carbon gets our mouths watering with the addition of carbon fiber body panels, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and Magnetic Selective Ride Control. GM quells Corvette rumors: No mid-engine, maybe a hybrid

Karl Stracke, General Motors VP of global engineering, has unequivocally denied the recent rumors about a mid-engine version of the next-generation Corvette with a wet-dual-clutch transmission. Stracke spoke with editors at Automotive News and Autoweek and addressed the latest batch of rumors. For decades, speculation about what will be done with a next-generation Corvette invariably pops up almost immediately after a new model is introduced.
For example, a mid-engined Corvette has reportedly been on the cards since at least the mid-60s, thanks in part to a string of concept and experimental models of that configuration. The last Corvette-badged mid-engine concept was the 1990 CERV-III, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation – especially in recent years as the Corvette has gained increased respect among the ranks of high-end sports cars. According to Stracke, “There is no mid-engine in the plans.”
