2012 Range Rover Evoque officially priced from $43,995*

Land Rover has slapped a sticker on its all-new 2012 Range Rover Evoque, and when sales begin this fall, $43,995 (not including destination) will get you behind the wheel of LR’s smallest, most efficient ‘ute.

In the run-up to launch, LR made a fuss about the amount of lightweight materials used on the Evoque, ranging from Boron steel in the chassis to composite fenders, a magnesium cross beam and aluminum roof, hood and suspension bits. In addition to utilizing recycled plastic material inside, all that weight-saving tech adds up to a curb weight of 3,680 pounds and – more importantly – a rather commendable 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Range Rover Sport RS500 by Project Kahn and Cosworth

There’s a grand tradition to enormously powerful and torquey diesel sport-utes. Most of them come from the Volkswagen group – like the Touareg V10 or the Audi Q7 V12 TDI – but this, as you might have guessed, is no VW. It’s a Range Rover, uut one that’s been thoroughly worked over. The modifications have been carried out through the joint efforts of Project Kahn and Cosworth – two British tuners that have been working together for the past couple of years. Their latest product started life as the thoroughly capable and luxurious Range Rover Sport with the 4.4-liter V8 diesel. With 313 horsepower, the diesel Rover is hardly a slouch, but Cosworth has taken it a step further (and then some) by squeezing out a whopping 500 horsepower.

Land Rover LR4 Landmark edition discovers its darker side

While Land Rover made a splash in Los Angeles with the new five-door Evoque, back in its native UK, the company was casting a white light and a dark shadow over the go-anywhere Discovery 4/LR4. Presented as the new Landmark edition, the special Disco can be ordered in either Santorini Black or Fuji White with coordinating interior in either ebony or ivory – the latter being offered for the first time in a Discovery. To complement the stark exterior color, Land Rover has also given the grille, roof rails and 20″ alloys a darker finish and fitted it with tinted glass.

Review: 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged

Prior to our stint with the 2011 Range Rover Supercharged, we enjoyed some time with a Jaguar XKR. The Jag and the Rover have the same supercharged 5.0-liter V8 and about the same six-figure price tag, which led a friend to ask which vehicle we’d prefer to own. Without hesitation, this author’s answer is the one you’d willingly take off-road. The supercharged Rover has more than enough power to be an exhilarating drive, is extremely capable off road and has room to spare for family, friends, pets, groceries and golf clubs. It just makes more sense than the Jag. Sense, however, usually doesn’t factor in when you’re making a four-wheeled wish list, so we took our friend for a ride, after which he hopped out with a smirk and said, “I’d take the Rover, too…”

Here’s the production 2012 Range Rover Evoque in all its glory, and the LRX-inspired CUV is lighter, meaner and greener than anything to come from the Range Rover arsenal. Buyers can opt for three exterior design themes: Pure, a minimalistic take with 19-inch wheels and natural colors complemented by brushed metal trim adorning the insides; Prestige, a “bespoke exterior” treatment with exclusive 19-inch wheels paired “an indulgent interior;” or Dynamic, with 19- or 20-inch wheels a reworked bodykit, and a sportier cabin complete with perforated leather seats and a bit more bling.

2011 Land Rover LRX stays true to the concept

So far, we know that the LRX may or may not sail under a different name once it lands in showrooms next year. Whatever Land Rover decides to call it, the baby-ute should be available in both front and all-wheel drive flavors. That’s right, we said 2011 will bring a FWD Land Rover to the scene. If that’s not enough to put a twist in the knickers of brand purists everywhere, reports have also suggested that buyers will also be able to opt for a hybrid version.

Surprise! Land Rover confirms two-door LRX for production

Land Rover has today confirmed what we’ve long expected – the popular LRX Concept from the 2008 edition of the Detroit Auto Show is headed for production. The British-born automaker doesn’t actually say the new ‘ute will be called the LRX when it hits the market in 2011, but it will definitely be wearing a Range Rover badge and therefore likely be marketed as a premium vehicle.

First Drive: 2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

It comes as no surprise the 2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport shares its upgraded engines and transmission with the 2010 Land Rover Range Rover. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have always been very similar with the main difference being the slightly more rakish exterior on the Sport and more demure handling on the regular Range Rover. Now there are even bigger differences between the two Range Rovers.
