2012 Mercedes Benz M Class shows off updated design
Mercedes-Benz will launch its 2012 M-Class crossover in the United States this fall, complete with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines as well as some styling updates. GLobally, the M-Class will be initially offered in ML250 Bluetec, ML350 Bluetec and ML350 BlueEfficiency designations, all of which are mated to 4Matic all-wheel drive. Hybrid and AMG variants are also said to be in the works.

2012 Mercedes-Benz MLThe base ML250 will be powered by a 2.1-liter diesel four-cylinder, rated at 204 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, while the ML350 Bluetec uses Merc’s revised 3.0-liter diesel V6, good for 258 hp and 457 lb-ft. The gas-powered ML350 BlueEfficiency uses the direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 now found in the C- and E-Class vehicles, generating 306 hp and 273 lb-ft in this application. All three engines will be mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Review

2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Coupe Review
Let’s be honest. We all want to save our barnacled friends in the ocean and give the whole world a great big polar bear hug. But as enthusiasts, we’ve all got a char-black underbelly, too. Mercedes-Benz understands. More specifically, the folks at AMG really understand. While Daimler has been working diligently this year to reduce its offerings’ various footprints and curb their dependence on gas, the people there haven’t lost sight of the fact that, occasionally, enthusiasts need to put away their canvas Whole Foods bags and indulge their dark side a bit.

How else to explain the 2012 C63 AMG Coupe? Not only is this new coupe bodystyle more self-absorbed by definition, Mercedes has ensured it qualifies for full homewrecker status by passing over its excellent new 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 in favor of the 6.2-liter V8 it was designed to replace. But for those interested in indulging their inner baddy, this is actually a very good thing. While the modestly downsized and significantly more efficient 5.5-liter is a wonderfully flexible and more powerful thing in Benz’s spectacular new CLS63 AMG, we have yet to connect with it on the same visceral, loin-stirring level as the almighty 6.2, mostly because of its less burly soundtrack. Mercedes may have eschewed the higher-tech motor on cost-savings grounds, but it’s also the correct choice for retaining the C63′s chain-smoking sprinter character.

First Drive: 2012 Mercedes Benz C Class Coupe
From 2001 through 2007, Mercedes tried valiantly with the CLC’s predecessor, the C-Class Sport Coupe hatch (it even sold a handful in the States for a couple of years), going so far as to market a sales-proof AMG version of the C30 CDI diesel as an experiment for them whacked-out Yurpeens. We barely ever see this model in Europe these days, but the company insists that around 250,000 of them were sold.

Mercedes-Benz finally intends for the coupe body to play a much more serious role in its C-Class lineup, despite the next-gen C-Class lurking only a couple of years away. Company spokespeople insist that the coupe will come along much sooner in the next version, all of this being made easier by a quiet and permanent goodbye to the lowly CLC.
