The Pontiac Fiero was produced from 1984 through 1988 and the “fired-up” GT version was introduced in 1985. Just one year before the car’s demise, Pontiac slightly updated the Fiero front and rear, greatly improving its appearance to most late-’80s buyers in the process.

The DeLorean Motor Company is a brand without a car and the Pontiac Solstice is a car without a brand. That leaves the company wondering: if John DeLorean were still alive, would he try to save Pontiac? Or one Pontiac?

The Pontiac G8 has not deserved its lot in life, and despite the Australians trying to steal it back with the debut of two special edition Holdens that look awfully similar, this rear-wheel-drive sport sedan will find one way or another to stay on sale in the U.S. Unfortunately, its customers won’t be the general public since General Motors, after a few crossed wires, has decided not to let the G8 live on as the Chevrolet Caprice. No, the G8′s new audience will be the po-po, as in law enforcement.

We maintain respect for the storied nameplates of Pontiac’s glory years, despite the fact that many of us at Car and Driver grew up when General Motors’ “excitement brand” was slinging LeMans-badged Daewoo hatchbacks, A-body Pontiac 6000 sedans, and a parade of laughable Firebird Trans-Ams that helped steer the brand toward a decade-long addiction to injection-molded excess. Oh, and we can’t forget the Aztek, even though we’d like to.
