Paris Preview: Renault DeZir concept signals new styling direction

Renault’s home auto show in Paris this Fall will mark the beginning of a new styling direction for the brand, and that means a new concept car. The DeZir is the first major project under new design vice president Laurens van den Acker and according to Renault, it represents the vision of ‘simple’, ‘sensuous’ and ‘warm.’ From where we sit, the shape certainly fulfills the first two elements and the bright red finish is downright hot.

Renault debuted its all new Wind coupe-convertible at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and now that summer is here, it’s time for it to hit the streets. At just over 12.5 feet long, the Wind’s closest competitor is likely to be the upcoming Mini Roadster and Coupe. Like so many other European automakers, Renault has gone with a hardtop, but not the type of complex, folding multi-piece unit found on so many others. Similar to the late Ferrari 575 SuperAmerica, the roof panel simply rotates back 180 degrees and stows flat under the rear deck.

Frankfurt 2009: Renault goes Twizy (with Zoe and Fluence and Kangoo)

The more we see of Renault’s all-electric line-up on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the more we want to hang out at company cocktail parties. Something delicious and potent must be on tap there. From the elegant and unexpected lines of the Zoe (above, note the recycle logo) to the buggy quirkiness of the Twizy, Renault is displaying some truly fun-looking electric cars here.
