Suzuki Kizashi EcoCharge and Apex concepts bow in New York

Suzuki is known for far more than its automobiles. To that end, the automaker has created a Kizashi that acts as a bridge between its high-performance motorcycles. Called the Kizashi Apex Concept, Suzuki has seriously upped the power flowing from its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Thanks to a Garrett turbocharger, air-to-liquid intercooler, electronic boost control and a recalibrated ECU, the Kizashi Apex will pump out an estimated 275 to 300 horsepower. That power will flow through a six-speed manual transmission, and Suzuki says it’s the only tranny that would be offered if the car enters production.

The concept vehicle ties in perfectly with Suzuki’s GSX-R race bikes. Both wear the same livery and both are aggresively styled vehicles. Sure, a production version would have to tone down the crazy a notch. All we ask is that the Suzuki make’s sure to keep the alcantara inserts, 19-inch wheels and size 245 Yokohama rubber if the car winds up on dealer lots.

Road Race Motorsports Platinum Edition Suzuki Kizashi

Road Race Motorsports has given the Suzuki Kizashi not just a boost, but a kick in the pants and elsewhere. Instead of the stock sedan’s 185 horsepower, RRM turbocharged the engine up to 300 hp, adds a sports suspension and sport brakes, along with a choice of bodykits. If 300 ponies is a little more than you’re after, RRM also has a 200-hp package, and the suspension offerings come in Stage 1, 2, and 3.

Suzuki reveals first images of new 2011 Swift

Suzuki has just dropped the first official photos of the new third generation Swift compact that goes on sale in Europe this Fall. The new hatch gets a slight smaller, but more powerful 1.2-liter inline-four that generates 93 horsepower thanks to variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust cams. The manual transmission model now has a rating of 47 miles per gallon (U.S.) on the EU combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 116 grams per kilometer. That’s 6.5 mpg better than the outgoing model.

To put it bluntly, the Kizashi is the strongest evidence yet that Suzuki’s automotive division is no longer operating on autopilot in the States. And what’s more, the brand is showing serious confidence. Consider the vehicles against which the automaker wants you to cross shop its Kizashi: the Acura TSX and Audi A4.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi drives brand out of basement, into fast lane

Shut your eyes and say the word “Suzuki” out loud. Unless you’re a moto-head or one of those rare Geo Metro fanatics (they exist, trust us), the image that springs to mind isn’t very nice. Odds are that the car your subconscious conjures is tiny, cheap and bizarre. It’s probably named something forgettable like “Aerio” or totally inaccurate (and forgettable) like “Esteem.”

Tokyo 2009: Suzuki previews three fuel cell concepts

Cars & Coffee: 2010 Suzuki Kizashi gets shown off

Another week, another “debut” of sorts at Irvine’s Cars & Coffee show. Last week we brought you pics of the Ford Ka and the Dunkel Brothers’ luxury 4X4 RV, but this week it was Suzuki’s turn to show off something new. Folks from the nearby Suzuki facility brought over an perfectly adequate SX4 and the car we were hoping to see in person, the all-new 2010 Suzuki Kizashi. The lighting was pretty harsh, but hopefully you can see what we saw while there: namely, one handsome sedan.

Respect Your Elders: Suzuki’s Kizashi concepts spotted stacked and awaiting crusher?

Actually, we don’t know where the lot is located, but we do know it appears to be holding the Suzuki Kizashi, Kizashi 2, and Kizashi 3 – important concepts that the Japanese automaker unveiled over the past two years.

Generally regarded as one of the top motorcycle brands all around the world and a major producer of Kei cars in Japan, Suzuki has never quite lived up to its promise as a sporty alternative to more mainstream offerings in America’s small car and SUV arenas.
