“Perhaps we were too slow? Reflection of bounce boards too bright?” Ed Loh posits. We didn’t even debate the philosophy of technology that uses a camera to “read” solid objects approaching at high closing speeds and slows or stops the crossover, allowing the driver to keep on texting. Yes, City Safety assumes too much driver responsibility. It’s also an impressive technology that has worked for us perfectly in other settings.

When you’re an auto journalist blogger, you’re constantly, incessantly bombarded with a series of questions. Usually it’s, “What’s the best car you’ve ever driven?” (Personal answer: Superformance Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, followed by blank stares.) The other question we get more frequently than, “How you doing?” is, “What car should I buy?” Sorta like the initial question, we have a a few boilerplate responses.

Why San Diego? That way you could maximize the amount of time your new C70 spends with its top down. More than three hundred days a year — probably. We say this because we saw some leaked shots of Volvo’s latest hardtop droptop a couple of weeks ago and it looked real nice with the roof stowed. Elegant even. But dude, is this Swede funny-looking with the top up. Viewed from the side, it’s hard to tell which end is which. Only the arching, over-sized headlights lend a clue.

There was a time when putting the words ‘Volvo’ and ‘Design’ in the same sentence was the punchline to a bad joke, but the Swedish automaker has come a long way since then. The C30 may be the best evidence to date that Volvo can make an attractive, sporty looking hatchback, and the little four-seater is about to get more interesting at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The redesigned 2011 Volvo S60 sedan has been spotted on U.S. roads, and it bears a striking resemblance to the sleek S60 coupe concept that debuted at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Although the side of the sedan is rather featureless (well, save for the dramatic character line above the door handles), the front end looks pretty tasty. Its jaw line is much less squarish than its V70/XC70 station wagon relatives.

As expected, Volvo will do the nip tuck on its entry-level model, the C30 hatchback, for the 2010 model year. The first official pictures and an accompanying press release have just been unleashed ahead of the car’s upcoming debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and, not surprisingly, the updates focus mainly on the front and rear fascias and closely mirror the modifications made to the C70 hardtop convertible.

A software glitch is responsible for 11,993 Volvo models being recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The campaign includes model year 2008-2010 S80 models, 2010 S60 models, 2009-2010 XC70 models, and the 2010 XC60, all running faulty software in their central electronic modules (CEM). According to NHTSA, the signal from the CEM may fail to reach the fuel pump electronic module (PEM), inhibiting the fuel from reaching the engine even as the vehicle’s throttle is depressed.

Volvo still hasn’t released an official press release to accompany them, but it would appear that genuine pics of the facelifted C70 have hit the streets regardless. Set to debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, the reskinned convertible hardtop seems as if it has been spending some late evenings with the S60 Concept that debuted in Detroit earlier this year.

Volvo’s plan to debut the production version of its all new S60 sedan next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show have apparently been canceled. According to a report out of the Netherlands from Autotelegraaf, the new mid-size sedan now won’t launch until sometime in 2010.
