Why 36 ministers of the Modi government reaching Jammu and Kashmir?
Only 8 visits of these ministers have been scheduled in the Kashmir region, while there will be 51 visits in the Jammu region. You will be surprised to know that out of about 13,000 seats for which elections are to be held, more than 12,500 seats are lying vacant in Kashmir alone.
36 ministers of the Modi government at the center are going to Jammu and Kashmir in different batches till January 24 to give the message of development. These ministers are reaching out to convey the message of development to the people of the state. The visit of BJP ministers began on January 18, a day before the completion of 30 years of Kashmiri Pandits’ migration from the Valley. This visit of the ministers is also linked to the Supreme Court’s decision to review the decision to shut down the Internet in the state.
However, the ministers’ visits can also be directly related to the panchayat by-elections in the state in the next two months. Let us tell you that Panchayat elections are held on 12,776 seats in February and March in the state. These elections will be held in four stages. January 24 will be the last day of the visit of these ministers, just one day before the notification of the panchayat elections.
This will be the first election in Jammu and Kashmir after the repeal of several provisions of Article 370 and the division of the two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir. The 2018 panchayat elections were boycotted by the two main regional political parties – the PDP and the National Conference. How well the Center is interested in the Panchayat elections, you can guess from this that the ministers have been asked to visit the villages.
